Peach Batter Cobbler Recipe

  • Author: Hailey
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

A delightful Peach Batter Cobbler featuring a buttery, sweet batter baked to golden perfection with juicy, sugared peaches layered on top. This traditional dessert offers a warm, comforting treat with a crisp topping and tender fruit inside, ideal for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit Mixture

  • 2 cups Peaches
  • 1/4 cup Dark Brown Sugar

Batter

  • 3/4 cup Butter
  • 1 cup Self-Rising Flour
  • 3/4 cup Dark Brown Sugar
  • 1 cup Milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare Peaches: In a medium-sized bowl, stir 1/4 cup Dark Brown Sugar into 2 cups of sliced Peaches. Mix well and set aside to allow the sugar to soften the fruit and create a natural syrup.
  2. Melt Butter in Baking Dish: Slice 3/4 cup Butter into pieces and place evenly in an 8×11 or 9×12-inch baking dish. Put the dish in the oven and preheat to 350°F (180°C). Let the butter melt completely while you prepare the batter.
  3. Make the Batter: In a bowl, whisk together 1 cup Self-Rising Flour and 3/4 cup Dark Brown Sugar until fully combined.
  4. Add Milk: Whisk in 1 cup Milk into the flour and sugar mixture until smooth and consistent, forming the batter.
  5. Assemble Cobbler: Once the butter has melted in the baking dish, carefully remove the hot dish from the oven. Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter, creating a layer.
  6. Add Peaches: Spoon the sugared peaches evenly on top of the batter layer. Do not stir; the batter will rise around the peaches during baking.
  7. Bake: Place the dish back in the oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the batter has risen around the peaches, the top is light brown, and the edges have a deeper golden brown color.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Serve the peach cobbler warm for the best flavor and texture. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Use fresh ripe peaches for the best flavor; canned peaches can be used but drain excess syrup.
  • Self-rising flour can be substituted by mixing 1 cup all-purpose flour with 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • Butter should be unsalted for best control over seasoning.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute milk and butter accordingly.
  • The cobbler is best served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
