  • Author: Hailey
  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

These Mouthwatering Caramel Apple Pie Bombs are a delightful twist on traditional apple pie, featuring a buttery biscuit dough filled with softly sautéed cinnamon-spiced apples and gooey caramel candy. Perfectly baked to a golden brown, these bite-sized treats are easy to assemble and ideal for sharing as a warm, comforting dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter

Dough and Topping

  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 8 pieces caramel candy
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Cinnamon sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apple Filling: In a medium saucepan, melt 1 tbsp unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped apples and sauté for 5-7 minutes until they just begin to soften. Stir in 2 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tsp ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Continue cooking for 3-5 minutes, allowing the sugars to melt and the spices to become fragrant. Transfer the apple filling to a shallow dish and let it cool completely.
  2. Assemble the Pie Bombs: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Unroll the refrigerated biscuit dough and separate it into 8 individual pieces. Place a generous spoonful of the cooled apple filling and one piece of caramel candy in the center of each dough piece. Carefully bring the edges of the dough up and over the filling, pinching the seams firmly to seal and form a ball or ‘bomb.’ Gently roll each bomb between your palms to smooth out seams and create a round shape.
  3. Bake the Bombs: Place the sealed pie bombs seam-side down on the parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them 1-2 inches apart. Brush the tops and sides with 2 tbsp melted butter to encourage browning. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-25 minutes or until they are puffed and deep golden brown.
  4. Cool and Finish: Remove the bombs from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool for 10-15 minutes before handling. Optionally, dust with cinnamon sugar while still warm. Serve warm and enjoy the gooey, spiced caramel apple filling inside a buttery crust.

Notes

  • Use tart apple varieties like Granny Smith for a balanced flavor that complements the sweetness of the caramel and brown sugar.
  • Make sure to seal the dough edges tightly to prevent caramel from leaking during baking.
  • Allow the bombs to cool slightly before eating to avoid burns from hot caramel.
  • Cinnamon sugar dusting adds a nice extra touch of sweetness and spice but is optional.
  • For a faster prep, you can prepare the apple filling a day ahead and refrigerate it.
