  • Author: Hailey
  • Total Time: 18 minutes
  • Yield: 2 sandwiches 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A delicious and warm grilled peanut butter and apple sandwich, combining the sweetness of fresh apples, the richness of nut butter, and a touch of cinnamon and maple syrup, all toasted to perfection on a skillet with coconut oil.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruit

  • 2 Apples

Spreads & Sweeteners

  • Nut Butter, to taste
  • Maple Syrup, to taste

Spices

  • Ground Cinnamon, to taste

Bakery

  • 4 slices Bread

Cooking Fat

  • Coconut Oil, as needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apples: Wash the apples thoroughly and slice each in half. Using a teaspoon, carefully scoop out the core and remove any area around the stem and calyx to ensure clean apple halves.
  2. Slice Apples: Position each apple half upright and cut into 1/4 inch slices. Aim for 3 to 4 slices per half depending on apple size. Then cut each slice vertically in half to create smaller pieces perfect for layering.
  3. Spread Nut Butter: Generously spread your choice of nut butter on all four slices of bread, ensuring even coverage for flavor and texture.
  4. Assemble Sandwich: On two slices, layer the apple slices evenly, then sprinkle ground cinnamon over the apples. Drizzle lightly with maple syrup for natural sweetness.
  5. Complete Sandwich: Place the remaining two bread slices on top of the layered slices to form sandwiches.
  6. Prepare Cooking Surface: Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat and lightly grease with coconut oil. Optionally, brush the top side of the sandwich with coconut oil for even browning.
  7. Grill First Side: Place the sandwich oil-side down on the skillet and cook for 2 to 4 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Flip and Grill Second Side: Lightly brush the top of the sandwich with coconut oil, flip it over carefully, and cook for another 2 to 4 minutes until the other side is also golden and the sandwich is warmed through.
  9. Serve: Remove the sandwich from the heat and serve immediately, optionally with any remaining fresh apple slices on the side for extra crunch and freshness.

Notes

  • You can customize the nut butter to almond, peanut, cashew, or any other favorite variety.
  • Use whole grain or sourdough bread for added texture and flavor.
  • If you prefer, substitute coconut oil with butter or another cooking oil.
  • Adjust cinnamon and maple syrup quantities based on sweetness preference.
  • For a vegan option, ensure the bread and maple syrup are vegan-friendly.
