- 2 Apples
Spreads & Sweeteners
- Nut Butter, to taste
- Maple Syrup, to taste
Spices
- Ground Cinnamon, to taste
Bakery
- 4 slices Bread
Cooking Fat
- Coconut Oil, as needed
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: Wash the apples thoroughly and slice each in half. Using a teaspoon, carefully scoop out the core and remove any area around the stem and calyx to ensure clean apple halves.
- Slice Apples: Position each apple half upright and cut into 1/4 inch slices. Aim for 3 to 4 slices per half depending on apple size. Then cut each slice vertically in half to create smaller pieces perfect for layering.
- Spread Nut Butter: Generously spread your choice of nut butter on all four slices of bread, ensuring even coverage for flavor and texture.
- Assemble Sandwich: On two slices, layer the apple slices evenly, then sprinkle ground cinnamon over the apples. Drizzle lightly with maple syrup for natural sweetness.
- Complete Sandwich: Place the remaining two bread slices on top of the layered slices to form sandwiches.
- Prepare Cooking Surface: Heat a griddle or skillet over medium heat and lightly grease with coconut oil. Optionally, brush the top side of the sandwich with coconut oil for even browning.
- Grill First Side: Place the sandwich oil-side down on the skillet and cook for 2 to 4 minutes until golden brown.
- Flip and Grill Second Side: Lightly brush the top of the sandwich with coconut oil, flip it over carefully, and cook for another 2 to 4 minutes until the other side is also golden and the sandwich is warmed through.
- Serve: Remove the sandwich from the heat and serve immediately, optionally with any remaining fresh apple slices on the side for extra crunch and freshness.
