Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon Salted Butter
- 1 slice Whole Wheat Bread
- 1 Egg
- Salt, to taste
- Ground Black Pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Heat the Butter: Heat 1 tablespoon of salted butter in a small skillet over medium heat until fully melted and slightly bubbling.
- Cut the Bread: Use a round cookie cutter or biscuit cutter to cut a circular hole out of the center of the whole wheat bread slice.
- Place Bread and Crack Egg: Place the bread with the hole into the skillet along with the cut-out bread circle to the side. Carefully crack the egg directly into the hole in the bread.
- Season and Cook First Side: Sprinkle a tiny bit of salt and ground black pepper on the egg. Cook for about two minutes until the egg starts to set.
- Flip and Cook Second Side: Using a spatula, carefully flip the bread to cook the other side. Sprinkle additional pepper on this side. Flip the cut-out bread circle as well to grill it alongside.
- Serve: Lift the egg-in-the-hole onto a plate. Use the toasted cut-out bread circle to soak up the warm, runny yolk and enjoy immediately.
Notes
- Use a nonstick skillet for easier cooking and flipping.
- Adjust seasoning to your taste preferences.
- You can substitute whole wheat bread for white or any bread of choice.
- For a runnier yolk, cook less on the second side; for a firmer yolk, cook longer.
- Use a heat-safe spatula to carefully flip without breaking the egg yolk.
