Ingredients
Scale
Custard Mixture
- 3 Eggs
- 1/4 cup Milk
- 2 teaspoons Caster Sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 1 dash Ground Cinnamon
- 1 dash Ground Nutmeg
For Cooking and Serving
- Bread, to taste (preferably sliced white or brioche)
- Butter, to taste (for the griddle and finishing)
- Nutella®, to taste (optional topping)
Instructions
- Preheat Griddle: Preheat your griddle or frying pan to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) to ensure an even and gentle cooking temperature.
- Prepare Custard Mixture: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, caster sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg until fully combined and smooth.
- Butter the Cooking Surface: Generously butter the preheated griddle or frying pan to create a non-stick surface and add richness to your French toast.
- Dip the Bread: Take your bread slices and dip them quickly into the custard mixture, ensuring they absorb enough liquid but do not get soggy, then immediately place them onto the hot griddle.
- Cook the French Toast: Cook the bread on one side until the bottom is golden brown and firm enough to flip, then carefully flip the slice and cook the other side until equally golden.
- Serve: Remove the French toast from the griddle and drizzle with honey, maple syrup, or Nutella® according to your preference. Serve hot for best enjoyment.
Notes
- Use thick slices of sturdy bread like brioche or challah for better absorption and texture.
- Do not soak the bread too long to prevent sogginess.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of caster sugar or the type of topping used.
- For a dairy-free option, substitute milk with almond or oat milk and butter with a plant-based alternative.
- Add fresh fruits or powdered sugar on top for an extra touch.
